Saturday April 30th 2005 saw a large and well scrubbed crowd
turn up at Bolton's prestigious Moat House Hotel for Bolton Mets' 10th
anniversary function. A veritable who's who of Bolton's rugby league glitterati
was there to pay witness to the stirling efforts of the Mets over the past
decade - and in the case of the player's wives, to give thanks for a few
hours peace every Saturday.
Guest of honour was Sky Sports' very own Stevo, who can
be seen finishing off the buffet on one of the pictures below. Entertainment
and band-a-oke was provided by a bewildered covers band featuring Roger
the Dorning-in-Law, ably supported by comic and raconteur Jack Dorning,
as usual telling jokes and laughing before he got to the punchline.
A raffle was held in aid of club funds and we thank all the organisations who donated prizes.
The hard work and perseverance of the commitee, coaching
staff and players was recognised in addition to individual player awards.
Our up and coming junior team were presented with medals by Stevo to commemorate
their first season. From tiny acorns do might oaks grow!
It was nice to see such a good turnout from ex-players,
many of whom were presumed dead, or at least in prison! The kids were certainly
pleased to meet Stevo, and he coped admirably with being constantly compared
to several of our follically challenged senior players/lardarses! The staff
at the Moat House appeared to be happy with the nights' bar takings
and Jaxx nightclub again pulled in most of the players for the regular
Saturday night ritual of beer, loud music and no copping off whatsoever
with the local lasses.
The juniors have it all to look forward to!
